Amazon Looking To Undercut Android App Market by Offering Paid Apps for Free
The Amazon App Store will be having a new section called the Amazon Unlocked and through this new initiative Amazon will be offering a number of paid apps and games for its users absolutely free of cost.
Amazon has been trying desperately to popularize its Appstore installs of late. Amazon has been offering apps at rock bottom prices for some time now and now Amazon has decided to become a major player in the Android app market. The company has decided to start a new Amazon Unlocked initiative that will offer paid apps and games for its users free of cost. This new initiative looks like an extension of Amazon’s already existing free app promotions that is run on the Amazon App Store.
Amazon wants more and more users to give importance and to take a look at its app market and hence has come out with the Amazon Unlocked concept. Amazon’s new concept gives a fillip to the game and app developers as well. They will not just enjoy the increased promotion of their apps and games, but will also get an opportunity to earn money from their apps that are given away for free at Amazon App Store. The developers have the option of leaving Unlocked and when they do so, the users of the app will have to start paying for the in-app purchases again.
So, there is no guarantee that a particular app will be part of the Amazon Unlocked initiative forever. As long as it is there, the users will be able to use it for free. Once developer opts out of the Unlocked facility, the user will have to pay the full price to use the app. There is no official confirmation from Amazon side as to when the program will launch or what its cost would be.
