Blackberry to Concentrate on Software Rather Than Hardware In The Coming Years
In an attempt to change its image in the market and stabilize its revenue, Blackberry has decided to project itself as a software company instead of a hardware company. It will now make its software available on other phones.
Smartphone maker Blackberry is set to change their image. At the recent event held in Barcelona, CEO of the company John Chen said that Blackberry is ready to turn things around. Since the continuous drop in the sales from the past few years, the company is all set to make its entry into the software market instead of handsets. This move by Blackberry is a bold step. Once known for its unique phones, Blackberry suffered heavy losses with the growth in the number of touchscreen phones in the market from its competitors.
Although Blackberry launched its new phone called Leap recently, it emphasized on software. It wants its mobile applications available to other platforms. This will make it possible for users of other mobile platforms like Android to use its business apps. It will give popularity to their apps on non-Blackberry phones. In the upcoming years, the company is set to roll out a software bundle which will consist of three software packages. This initiative is called Blackberry Experience. This initiative is aimed at improving communications.
It is targeted towards government and business personnel. Another software that Blackberry aims to open to other smartphone users is Work Life. It helps in separating billing and communications. It is an interesting software. Under the leadership John Chen, Blackberry has started concentrating on the software part of the business. The company has worked for making its software available for Samsung phones. This is a smart move considering the sales of Samsung phones in the recent years.
