Details of Minecraft Game Users and Passwords Get Leaked Online
German media reports that a list of 1800 Minecraft usernames and their passwords has been leaked online and most of the leaked accounts belong to German gamers. This means that anyone can now break into a Minecraft account and cause lots of havoc to any account.
Minecraft is a very popular online game and there have been over 100 million PC downloads of this game so far. Microsoft had to pay $2.5 billion to buy this game from game developer Mojang. As this is a very popular game, it was surely on the radar of hackers and this is what has happened now. A list of as many as 1800+ Minecraft usernames and their passwords has been released online by hackers on Pastebin.
If unauthorized users use these usernames and passwords to log into other peoples Game worlds, they can not only play around in the users game world, but also download the full version of the Minecraft for free. There is no clear cut information as to how the hackers were able to access such huge data. The possibilities of large data leakage could be linked to a security breach at Minecraft or phishing attacks or key logging malware that steals the players details as they log into their Minecraft account.
There has been no information about the security breach on the home page of Minecraft, but this cannot be completely discarded off. The breaches normally would take some time to become public and this might be known in a few days to come. Users of Minecraft would be in a great dilemma as to whether they need to change their passwords immediately. There is no doubt that they must do it as soon as possible. If they are using the same password anywhere else on the web, then it is high time they change the password on all those sites.
