Microsoft has sold 6.6 million numbers of Xbox One gaming consoles in the last holiday quarter, but failed to show an increase in the revenue despite out beating Sony's PS4 by over 2.5 million gaming console sales during the same period.

The gaming console war between Microsoft and Sony has been going on for quite some time now and Sonys PlayStation 4 has been leading the group of gaming consoles with its hype and sales since its launch. But, it looks like this trend has changed a bit for the last holiday quarter. Microsoft has revealed its holiday quarter revenue statement and it is seen that Microsoft has sold about 2.5 million more Xbox One gaming console than the PS4, which is a remarkable feat.

Despite showing an increase in the sales of consoles, Microsofts Xbox sales year over year came down during the last holiday quarter when compared to previous year holiday quarter revenue. During the second quarter, Microsoft had reported that it had sold 7.4 million Xbox gaming consoles, out of which it sold 3.9 million Xbox One console and 3.5 million Xbox 360 consoles. This time, Microsoft has not come out with clear cut information about specific sales numbers of Xbox One console and its predecessor Xbox 360.

Microsoft just claims that sales of Xbox One gaming consoles have been more than that of PlayStation 4 during the specific time period. Microsoft had reduced the price of Xbox One, two times in the past few months and from its original price of $499, it has come down to $399 and now it is sold at just $349. Meanwhile, Microsoft is doing a fairly good job on the software business side with its games like Forza Horizon 2, Minecraft and Halo: The Master Chief Collection sold like hot cakes during the holiday quarter period.
